With winter approaching quickly, the young and adventurous among us are thinking about all the fun there is to be had on the ski slopes. Across the globe, there are innumerable ski areas waiting to be shredded. However, there is more to a fun weekend in the mountains than what happens on the snow. After the gear comes off at the end of the day, a quick shower is had, and perhaps a brief pre-evening nap, the thoughts of the young then turn to what nightlife is on offer in the town that is hosting them.
Don’t have an amazing day on the mountain, only to be bored out of your skull come the evening. In order to keep the good times flowing, here are some skiing and snowboarding destinations that have smoking hot après ski scenes…
1) Aspen, Colorado, USA – For those among us that are star struck every time a Hollywood celebrity crosses our path, Aspen is the place you’ll want to be. If you don’t run into them gracefully swishing down a blue run on the mountain, chances are you’ll spot them out dining, drinking or dancing at Cache Cache. Then again, the celebs are constantly trying to shake the paparazzi, so keep your eyes open. You could spot a well-disguised famous person anywhere in this town.
2) Chamonix-Mont Blanc, France – On the other side of the Atlantic, the resort town of Chamonix, in the shadow of the mighty Mont Blanc is an epicentre for skiers and riders looking to live it up off the slopes. Located at the heart of the Alps mountain chain, Chamonix is but a stone’s throw from heavily populated areas in France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. As such, it draws many snow sport enthusiasts in search of a good time. To that end, there are bars like La Cantina that draw famous DJ’s from all over the world, keeping the party going until at least 4 AM. For those who enjoy indulging in risk, a luxurious casino offers a chance to hit it big, or go home with nothing but an awesome story to tell their friends.
3) Whistler, British Columbia, Canada – North of the 49th parallel, Canada contains some of North America’s most stunning mountain scenery. For those who like to mix off mountain entertainment with on-mountain excitement, Whistler is your best choice out of all the available options. Start the festivities at the base of Whistler or Blackcomb’s gondolas, then progress to the Amsterdam Café in the Village Square, which promises ample opportunity for people watching. Finally, dance the night away at Tommy Africa’s, a well-loved nightspot in downtown Whistler.
The options for recreating yourselves away from the slopes this winter are limitless. No matter where you end up getting your turns in this season, just get downtown after your day on the slopes, order a few drinks, and get out of your shell and talk to some strangers. That way, you are bound to at least have an interesting story to tell your co-workers when you return home!
